Sturgis or Bust!

Earlier this month, motorcycle riders rode in droves from all over the nation to Sturgis, South Dakota to participate in the 78th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Reports claim that over 500,000 vehicles entered Sturgis during the ten-day long rally, an eight percent increase compared to last year.

Our firm’s CEO, Charlie Garrison, may not have been one of the roaring masses at Sturgis this year, but a motorcycle was his first vehicle and he’s been riding since he was 16 years old. I understand that the concept of a motorcycle-riding CPA may sound oxymoronic to some, but Charlie has the image down pat. He even has a motorcycle vest that reads “Hells Accountants” on the back. (Full disclosure: Charlie is not a member of motorcycle gang).

Charlie rides a black 2003 Electra Glide Ultra Classic. He says, he “would love a new one, but this one is a 100th Anniversary Edition. I might end up with two.” Charlie has ridden his Ultra Classic twice to Sturgis, but he stresses it’s been, “Just twice. Sturgis is like Las Vegas- you can only take so much of it.”

Charlie has had other epic motorcycle rides including trips to Malibu, North Carolina, the Northwest and Alaska. When asked where he plans to go next, he says “I may have to visit Alaska one more time.”
